3 Beneficial Secrets of Ancient Healing Method
(Relax with Deep Breathing)
My Favorite Method of Cutting Over-production of Cortisol. It could become yours as well. Let’s find out.
#1 Beneficial Secret of Ancient Healing Method
Relax with Deep Breathing and Cut Cortisol Over-production
It’s important to breathe deeply throughout the day. But when possible take some scheduled time, even lying in bed before sleep or a nap, to intentionally practice deep breathing. Cortisol is the stress hormone released by the adrenals to help us handle stress. But if the stress is continual or chronic it will cause over-production of this hormone which can be very harmful. According to Matthew Thorpe, MD, PhD in his 2017 article in Healthline, it can lead to chronic complications: weight gain, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
Deep breathing is such a simple natural way to curb these adverse conditions. Why not give it a try? You can do it lying in bed. You can pause the tension at work while sitting in a chair. Let your arms relax by your side. Feel the muscles relax as you speak to each area, telling your jaw and neck to relax. Visualize the stress leaving those muscles. Breathe deeply. As you exhale blow that tension away with the air you release. Do this for each area of your body. Try to inhale without raising your chest. Breathe from the diaphragm. Feel your belly rise as you take a deep breath for at least five or six seconds. I’m working on ten or eleven sometimes. Then slowly let it out as you let your body sink into the mattress or chair. With consistency you will cut the cortisol production and feel this calm throughout your day.
#2 Beneficial Secret of Ancient Healing Method
Clarity and Control Over Distracting Negative Thoughts
Deep breathing and meditation work from the inside out, they help you focus on your inner strengths and identify your weaknesses.*
Dr. Daniel Amen has an acrostic for negative thinking. ANTS Automatic Negative Thought Syndrome. It’s a definite path to destruction of the body as well as the mind. Negative thinking can disable you from a productive lifestyle. Fear is crippling. You and I must get control of our thinking. No one else can do that for us. Reject those fearful, worrisome, and mostly improbable circumstances you are creating in your imagination.
Your imagination can be a wonderfully useful asset or a dangerous plague. Think, instead, about a bright future, no fear, lollipops, and roses. You can change your thought patterns. Even if you’re pretending, weren’t you pretending with the negative thoughts? Yes, undoubtedly.
You are in charge of thought control. But deep breathing can benefit your brain with clarity and control over distracting negative thoughts. Each time you practice this relaxing mechanism, you are training your brain to take control. It becomes a habit. A good one. Again, with consistency, you can get clarity and control of your thought life and find that it becomes habitual to nip those negative thoughts in the bud. Switch lanes to the positive, happy mental picture of a successful productive life. You are advancing in the battle for the brain.
#3 Beneficial Secret of Ancient Healing Method
Longevity
I repeat, stress is destructive.
We need to be proactive in saving our own lives from this enemy to our health and longevity.
Stress robs us of peace and distracts us from life’s more important matters. Most of our worries are unfounded and never occur, and next year at this time are long forgotten.
I remember a friend once telling me that she didn’t mind if other people acted all crazy about her not being on time to get places, she just did what she could at her own pace and didn’t let it bother her. I suggested I should be more like her. Her reply, “Yeah I’m gonna live a lot longer than those dear people. They get so worked up about things. I don’t try to be late. But I do the best I can and if it doesn’t go my way, I accept that.”
My Personal Experience
I used to wake with headaches most mornings. I wore my mouth guard faithfully while sleeping to protect from damaging my teeth. But since I’m still grinding my teeth the pressure was causing the headaches. Since I’ve been practicing deep breathing with sound frequencies, I no longer have those headaches. I’m more relaxed while sleeping. I don’t have trouble getting back to sleep if I wake in the night.
Your Solution
Consistent practice of deep breathing improves sleep patterns, promotes being able to get back to sleep if you wake in the night. Using sound frequencies is an added bonus. More on that in another article. Remember, in a stressful moment four deep breaths can reset your nervous system.
Think about it:
> Cut overproduction of cortisol
> clear and control those negative thoughts
> sleep more restfully, and live longer (okay, no promises there, just watch out for those cement stoppers in parking lots. That’s the only time you can keep your head down. Watch for those).
